…………They are not interested in which political party is in power, but in who can run Nigeria effectively, improve the country, and put food on the tables of Nigerians,”
The Senate on Tuesday officially received and welcomed Senator Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Deputy Senate President, who presided over the plenary, read Jarigbe’s defection letter on the floor of the Senate, signifying his formal alignment with the ruling party.
Recall that Senator Jarigbe had earlier met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, alongside Senator Kaila Samaila of Bauchi North, who also recently joined the APC. The meeting was led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Speaking after the visit, Akpabio described their defection as “an act of patriotism,” noting that both lawmakers were impressed by the President’s policies, which have improved the economy and revenue generation.
“They are not interested in which political party is in power, but in who can run Nigeria effectively, improve the country, and put food on the tables of Nigerians,” Akpabio said.
In his remarks, Senator Jarigbe explained that his decision was driven by the desire to support the President in delivering the dividends of democracy.
“The President is really doing well, and I want to come in and support him in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people,” he said.
His defection adds to the growing list of PDP members who have recently crossed over to the APC, reflecting the party’s strengthening political influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
